Abstract

Especially small and medium size enterprises need to have joint efforts to tackle the on-going changes in their business environment. Information and communication Technologies enable the increase of collaboration between enterprises. In this paper, the specific problem to be solved is the collaborative calculation of the Materials Requirement Plan (MRP). The MRP is solved through the design of a heuristic algorithm based on the Least Unit Cost (LUC) technique, and is validated in the automotive industry. In this paper the collaboration is enhanced through iterations when first and second tier companies in the supply chain of the automotive industry exchange information on their demand and production plans. The proposed algorithm is part of the optimisation module developed in the Cloud Collaborative Manufacturing Networks (C2NET) project. The data needed to solve are extracted from the existing legacy systems of the companies and mapped with the C2NET data structure. In future, C2NET will provide several algorithms to solve planning problems within manufacturing industries as well as other sectors.
