A H2020 Project of Factories of the Future granted in the Campus d'Alcoi of UPV

The Research Center on Production Management and Engineering (CIGIP) of the Campus d'Alcoi at Universitat Politècnica de València, has received funding to participate in a European project of the Horizon 2020 programme specifically in the call of Factories of the Future.

The project entitled Cloud Collaborative Manufacturing Networks (C2NET) will create  cloud tools to optimize Manufacturing Networks mainly composed of Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) with regard to  manufacturing and logistic assets based on collaborative demand, production and delivery plans.

The specific objectives of the project  are:

  • Enhanced overall competitiveness, innovation and adaptability in today and tomorrow’s enterprise partnership scenario.
  • Cross-country and inter-enterprise interchanges, building networked enterprises that are supported by stable relationship schemas and modern co-operation & co-ordination business paradigms.
  • Cost reduction, through overall optimisation and elimination of inefficiencies of processes, stocks, flows, plans, etc.
  • Companies’ human resources improved quality of work and skills, through improved knowledge management and dissemination, better understanding of dynamics and flows, and clearer definition of roles and responsibilities.
  • Optimisation of materials, wastes and energy consumption based on more rational and homogeneous  production and supply plans, stocks and workforce balance.

C2Net project proposal has been fully developed by researchers at the campus d'Alcoi, coordinated by the Professor and Director of CIGIP: Raul Poler. The project will begin on January 1, 2015, its duration is three years and it has a funding of more than 7 million Euros, of which 434,550 Euros correspond to Universitat Politècnica de València. Raul Poler is the scientific coordinator of the whole project and the CIGIP will lead the development of optimization and simulation algorithms to solve problems related to logistics and manufacturing assets in collaborative manufacturing networks.

The project consortium consists of 20 institutions from 6 countries (Belgium, Slovakia, Spain, Finland, France and Portugal) and consists of 3 universities, 3 Centers / Technology Institutes, 2 Research Organizations, 2 business associations, 4 Large companies and 6 SMEs. From Spain, besides the presence of the UPV, the project also has the participation of the consultancy services of ATOS Spain, IKERLAN and Instituto Tecnológico de Informática, as well as 2 Valencian companies of the automotive sector (Faurecia and Novatec).

It is not the first time that researchers from CIGIP Campus d'Alcoi participate in a European project. Currently they are involved in the Future Internet Technologies for Manufacturing (FITMAN) project which will end in September 2015 and recently they coordinated the project Resilient Multi-Plant Networks (REMPLANET) which ended in April 2012. Other European projects which involved researchers from CIGIP Campus d'Alcoi were: PLANET-DESIGN, INTEROP-NoE, ECOSELL, UEML, V-CHAIN and SCHUMANN.
